BUET Low-Cost Geo-Seismic Devices Featured at Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026

Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026 held at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre, Dhaka.

The BUET Low-Cost Geo-Seismic Instrumentation research team showcased its locally engineered hazard monitoring technology at the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026. Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the national fair brought together top innovators under the theme "Innovate to Market."

Developed through an interdisciplinary collaboration between BUET’s Department of Civil Engineering (CE) and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), the project aims to solve the high cost and maintenance challenges of traditional imported earthquake monitoring systems.

Key Technologies Demonstrated

  • BUET Low-Cost Accelerometer (BLCA): Plug-and-play sensor network node providing 24/7 continuous ground motion recording and automatic cloud telemetry.
  • Inclinometer & Tiltmeter (BLCI / BLCT): Precision instruments designed for continuous slope stability and structural deflection monitoring.
  • Calibration Shake Table: A custom testbed for real-time sensor dynamic calibration.
  • BLCSN Web Portal: An open-access platform (www.blcsn.tech) for live seismic data sharing and research.

Proven Field Performance

The network currently connects five operational stations across Bangladesh (BUET, SUST, BAU, CUET, and BAUST) and has successfully detected over 12 regional earthquakes, including the Narsingdi (M 5.5), Bhaluka (M 3.4), and Bhutan (M 5.6) events.

The project is led by Dr. Tahmeed Malik Al-Hussaini (Principal Investigator, CE) and Dr. Md. Zunaid Baten (Co-Principal Investigator, EEE), with support from RISE, BUET and partner academic institutions.
